A CCTV project should be designed around what the business needs to see, how long recordings must be retained and how the system will be supported after installation. Camera quantity alone does not determine a good design.

Define coverage before choosing cameras

• Entrances and exits
• Cash or transaction areas where appropriate
• Loading, parking or perimeter areas
• Critical internal areas subject to the site’s operational and privacy requirements

Calculate recording storage

Plan network and PoE capacity

Secure remote access

Avoid exposing NVR/DVR administration directly to the internet unless the design specifically requires it and is properly secured. Use strong credentials, supported firmware and controlled remote-access methods.

Require a proper handover

The installer should provide device labels, administrator ownership, configuration details, recording settings and a support path for camera, disk or network failures.
