Equipment does not need to fail completely before it becomes a business risk. Firewalls, switches, servers, storage, laptops and other devices can continue running after vendor support or security updates have ended, which makes lifecycle tracking part of normal IT planning.
When a vendor stops providing fixes or support, the device may become harder to secure and repair. The right replacement date depends on business criticality and whether the equipment is still receiving the updates it needs.
A repair can make sense when the platform is still supported and the failure is isolated. Replacement is easier to justify when support has ended, capacity is insufficient, repeated faults are occurring or compatible parts are difficult to source.
Search the Techvenation Hardware EOL Checker for available lifecycle records. Always confirm customer-critical dates with the manufacturer because lifecycle can differ by SKU, region or service programme.
Maintain an annual replacement forecast for critical firewalls, switches, servers, storage and endpoint devices so upgrades can be budgeted and scheduled.
